Meet Bobbie

New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

I moved to this great country when I was four years old from India. My parents, like all immigrants, wanted a better life for their children and worked hard to give it my family. We are a living testament to the American Dream.

Elk Grove has been my home since 1992. My children grew up here playing in public parks and attending local schools. My brother is a small business owner here and my parents are retired and live in this community.

The people of this city have given me so much and through public service I’ve worked to give back. I’ve been on the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees for the last

eight years.

My time as a Trustee restored collaborative relationships with our bargaining groups. I am a strong proponent of stakeholder engagement and was a leader bringing the Parent Teacher Home Visitation Project to our District. This program expands teacher-parent engagement

directly through home visits to build partnerships with non-engaging families. When I began my service to the school district, there were not enough parent voices on the school board. Decisions were being made for my children and your children without an advocate who had school aged children.

The diversity of our district is its strength. I have used my voice and vote to expand opportunities for all 63,000 students. For my work in the school district and the various committees I serve on, I was recognized by Assemblymember Jim Cooper as “Woman of the Year”.

Additionally, I am a statewide Commissioner for Visit California where I help develop marketing strategies to boast travel and tourism to our state. The travel industry is responsible for millions of jobs throughout California.

Previously, I served on the Elk Grove Food Bank Board of Directors. I served on the Elk Grove Teen Center Board of Directors. I was an active member of Laguna Sunrise Rotary. Professionally, I serve as an advocate for the business community. In order to attract businesses to locate to Elk Grove, we need a champion that has a foundation of understanding the many hurdles and challenges they face. Inspiring confidence from the mayor and city council are just one of the measurements businesses look to when investing in cities.

As your new mayor, I will continue to build bridges just like I’ve done as your Trustee and in other areas of my life. There’s no limit to what we can accomplish together.
